Dubai international schools — is it true my kid is too young for KG1?

I'm scheduled to be posted early next year, so I'm starting with schools for my kid. She's a winter baby so the age calculation is awkward, and all I've heard is that the cutoff differs by school, which confuses me. I also heard there's a separate admissions assessment — if anyone has experience, please tell me how it works.
